What Students Say
Scott Fuqua is a kind, caring, fun and well-published author and illustrator. In my experience with Scott as a teacher, he has developed my skills with accuracy, liberated my style with honesty, patience, and support. Through his skill and encouragement, many of his students have published works and I plan to add my name to this list in 2023. - Joycelyn Jolly

Scott is a remarkable mentor with an incredible gift of inspiring confidence in his students to develop mastery with painting and illustration. I cannot imagine a more positive and supportive guide for the journey towards achieving my goals with illustration. His guidance has ranged from conceptualization and composition and developing my painting style to creating high quality completed pieces for submission for potential publication for a book illustration. I am lucky to have Scott as a mentor, teacher, and friend. - Dr. Chris Hoffmann

Scott has been a life-changing presence for me over the past several years. I took up illustration and watercolor the year before the pandemic after a lifetime of not working on visual art and he has helped me -- he continues to help me! -- explore my potential. He is a gifted teacher who can adapt to many different learning styles as well as a brilliant writer and artist and one of the kindest people I know. This is probably why he has attracted such a great group of people as students over the years. I can't wait to take classes at the new school. -Marion Winik

Scott is determined that you achieve your personal goals as an artist/creator. He maintains a kind, welcoming, and uplifting attitude while offering personalized advice for you to be a great artist. It is apparent that he truly loves what he does, and wants other people to enjoy themselves in the process of creativity. - Darrea Fraiser

In addition to my admiration for Scott's illustrations and his artistic skill in general, I appreciate his teaching approach most of all. Scott approaches each student to meet them where they are, to understand their direction, skills, and goals. Then he targets his instruction to help each student reach their individual best. He's no dogmatic instructor who wants to turnout cookie-cutter students with one style. He'll meet you where you are and help you do your best work. He's also an entertaining storyteller who can relate to the human condition and encourage you on your artistic journey. - Carol Kurts-Stack

I have learned so much through my classes with Scott. Scott takes the time to demonstrate different techniques, discuss the basics, and answer all questions. He has tremendous patience and is always willing to explain or review any trouble spots. In his welcoming classes, I felt supported as an artist and I gained confidence in my abilities. Scott always encourages his students to push their limits with their art and his guidance was exactly what I needed to dive deep into my work. Scott is incredibly talented, and I'm looking forward to taking another of his classes. - Amy T.
